Tips To Play Golf Faster

How long should a round of golf take? It is a question that all golfers want to know the answer to. The truth is, it depends less on your skill level than on how fast you can play. Even if you are just starting or have never played before, your game doesn't have to take longer than an experienced golfer. Use these tips to speed up your game!

Always Be Planning

One of the best ways to speed up your game is by always thinking two steps ahead. What's my next shot going to be? How do I plan on getting that shot into play? Where should it go once it's in play? Always have a target for where you want your ball to end up, and then determine how you are going to get it there.

There is typically a lot of time to plan on what your next shot is, long before it's your turn to hit. Be planning as you walk up to your ball and while your partners are playing their shots. If you wait until it's your turn to hit to form a plan, you'll feel hurried and likely hit a worse shot.

The best players can play fast because they are ready to do so. They've come prepared with everything they need and have planned out what shots will be necessary for each hole ahead of time. This allows them to keep moving without ever having a lull or hesitation between shots; it's almost like they're on a roll.

Leave The Swing Training At Home

Unfortunately, there are plenty of players that try to work on their game while they play. The course is no place to fix swing flaws or learn new moves. You need time and patience to practice your swing in a meaningful way; golf courses typically don't provide either one of those things. Play the game you have today, and improve when you have time to devote your full attention to practice.

We're all guilty of it. You want to be the best player you can be. But playing good golf and practicing the game are two very different things, and it's nearly impossible to do both at once. Leave the practice swings for when you get home and save yourself some time (and strokes!) on the course.

Play The Course, Not Your Opponents

Don't focus on what your opponents are doing; focus on what you're doing. Trying to keep up with someone else will only lead to frustration and wasted energy. You'll also start making poorer decisions as a result of being worried about what everyone else is doing.

Just like in life, comparisons only lead to misery. You're never going to play as well as someone else (nor should you try), so don't waste your time worrying about it. Play your own game and focus on improving yourself.

Avoid Trouble

One of the best ways to speed up your golf game is to keep the ball in play as much as possible. This means making smart shots and avoiding unnecessary risks. If you can stay out of trouble, you'll spend less time looking for lost balls and more time actually playing golf.

If a hole is tight with trouble all around, play a safe reliable shot you know will safely set up the next shot - even if you leave yourself longer than you'd like! It's better to be short than lose a ball. Searching for lost balls is one of the biggest wastes of time, even for experienced players. This seems simple but it's difficult to commit to. We all like to take risks and show off our skills, but it's typically not worth it in the long run.

Conclusion

These are just a few tips to speed up your golf game. Remember, the most important thing is to always be thinking ahead and planning out your next shot. If you can do that, you'll be well on your way to shaving some time off of your round!
